When to Consult an Oncologist?
Early Detection and Screening
Regular cancer screenings are crucial for early detection, especially for those with a family history of cancer or other risk factors. Early diagnosis increases the chances of successful treatment, making it important to consult an oncologist for routine check-ups and screenings.
Cancer Symptoms and Diagnosis
If you are experiencing unexplained symptoms such as persistent pain, unusual lumps, prolonged fatigue, or sudden weight loss, it’s essential to seek medical advice. Our oncologists use state-of-the-art diagnostic tools to accurately identify the presence and type of cancer, ensuring that you receive the right treatment from the very beginning.

Types of Cancer Treated at Nandhini Pearl
Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women, but it can also occur in men. It begins in the cells of the breast tissue and can spread to other parts of the body if not treated early.
Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths worldwide. It typically begins in the lungs but can spread to other parts of the body. Lung cancer is broadly categorized into two main types: non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancer (SCLC).
Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men, particularly affecting those over the age of 50. It begins in the prostate gland, a small, walnut-shaped gland that produces seminal fluid, which nourishes and transports sperm. While prostate cancer is generally slow-growing, some types can be more aggressive and spread quickly to other parts of the body.

Prognosis and Follow-Up Care
Diagnostic Procedures
Digital Rectal Exam (DRE)
A physician inserts a gloved, lubricated finger into the rectum to feel the prostate gland for abnormalities.
Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) Test
Measures the level of PSA, a protein produced by the prostate gland, in the blood. Elevated levels may indicate prostate cancer, but can also be due to other conditions such as prostatitis or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Biopsy
If PSA levels are elevated or a DRE is abnormal, a biopsy may be performed. During this procedure, small samples of prostate tissue are removed and examined under a microscope to check for cancer cells.
Advanced Imaging Tests
MRI, CT scans, or bone scans may be used to determine if cancer has spread beyond the prostate gland.
Transrectal Ultrasound (TRUS):
TRUST involves inserting a small ultrasound probe into the rectum to produce images of the prostate gland. It is often used to guide the biopsy needle during a prostate biopsy.
Genetic Testing and Molecular Diagnostics:
For certain patients, genetic testing and molecular diagnostics may be recommended. These tests analyze the genetic makeup of cancer cells to identify specific mutations or markers that can influence treatment decisions.

Risk Factors
Family History: A family history of prostate cancer can double a man’s risk, especially if a father or brother has been diagnosed with the disease.
Race: African American men are at higher risk compared to men of other races.
Diet: A diet high in red meat and high-fat dairy products and low in fruits and vegetables may increase the risk.
Genetic Mutations: Certain genetic mutations, such as those in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes, may also increase the risk of prostate cancer.
